BoomBoom Wants Less Pain for You
November, 2012 (New York City) – Believe it or not, some women don’t tend to their brows, their MOST VALUABLE asset, due to pain. Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar, doesn’t want anyone to be left out of the fun, so she has these tips for pain-free plucking and waxing:
BEFORE
· Low Temperature Wax – It’s kept at a lower temperature, so it’s very gentle and never burns.
· Hair Length - Remove hair when it’s about ¼ of an inch long, so wax can stick and grab hair for removal. If it’s too short, the wax won't stick enough, and if it’s too long, hair breaks off before the root making the process more painful.
· Exfoliate and Moisturize - Softer hair follicles surrounded by clean skin release hair the best, so exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, so the wax sticks better, and then apply a moisturizer to soften the follicle.
· Ibuprofen – Take an anti-inflammatory a half hour before waxing to prevent swelling and dull pain.
· Tanning Beds - Avoid 24 hours prior.
Menstruation - Avoid doing the week prior when nerves are more sensitive.
· Meds and Chems - Stop using AHA’s 4-5 days prior and if using any meds like Retin-A, Retinol, Accutane, Proactive and antibiotics, stick to plucking, no waxing!
· Alcohol - If all else fails, have a drink, it will dull the pain too!
AFTER
· Sanitize - Hair follicles are yanked out at the root leaving an open area susceptible to bacteria and infection, so apply an ointment like Bacitracin to seal, sooth and reduce bumps.
· Celebrate – Done...even strangers will be crushing on those brows!!
Malynda Vigliotti (aka Boom Boom) is the flashiest waxer in NYC. She’s obsessed with brows, does over 500 a month (over 17,000 in 2011) at Boom Boom Brow Bar in NYC, and sees no reason why everyone shouldn’t have thick, gorgeous eyebrows. After all, they are the most important feature on the face. There's no such thing as natural beauty, but a perfectly done brow is like an instant eyelift – no Botox necessary! Boom Boom makes waxing fun and affordable for everyone! The New York Times even loves her http://www.nytimes.com/2011/

Boom Boom Brow Bar Push-Up Brow Highlighting Pencil
This highlighter is pretty great. It offers two sides. One side is great a matte cream color, perfect for those days in between plucking. The other side is my favorite. It's a champagne pink color that looks great on the brow bone and in the corner of your eyes. It's just what you need in the morning when you need to look a little more than awake for work.

Browscaping
New York, NY:
“Sooner or later, a trim is in order…for almost anything that grows, even brows. Ever see those long strands that stand out or fall...not pretty,” explains Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar. Here’s how it’s done:
Using a disposable mascara wand, brush brows upwards and trim excess hair slightly - not too short or it will make a hole (get to that in a minute). Then, brush brows down and do the same. Make sure to use scissors with a rounded edge to ensure safety, don’t want sharp objects near peepers!
If you get in a jam…over-tweezing and/or trimming too short can create holes, but there is a simple solution - Boom Boom Brow Boostiers brow powder to the rescue. A brow powder is really easy to work with and great for camouflaging holes and thin spots. It’ very natural looking when applied with an angled brush - just dab on the spot and go. Don’t over-think it, just follow the line and fill in the hole. It's that simple.
Brow Boostiers brow powder is made of mineral powders that are hypoallergenic and free of all fragrance, oil, talc, dyes and fillers. They are virtually weightless and make filling in brows easy, and truly natural looking with rich color pigment. Comes in four colors (Aretha, Tina, Bette, Dolly) each with the most perfect brush EVA, designed by Boom Boom.
From Kate: Love the Brow Boostiers! I have Bette, it makes my bald spot disappear.

Waxing + Meds= Trouble
From Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar
New York, NY – Women share a lot of personal information with their stylists and esthes – who they date, where they party (the list is endless, so let’s just stop here), but they may not want to share information about the type of medications they take, and when it comes to waxing, it’s CRUCIAL!
“It really is imperative that you advise what medications you use BEFORE a wax service. Meds like Retin-A, retinol, Accutane, antibiotics, and even Proactive are designed to exfoliate the skin, so if wax is applied, it will literally lift skin off like it’s a piece of parchment paper,” explains Boom Boom.
What’s the plan if meds are involved? “A good esthe should tweeze with a clean sharp pair of tweezers. It may take longer, but it’s the only way to go,” adds Boom Boom.

The best Push Up for your face
One of my favorite products? The Boom Boom Push Up brow highlighting pencil.
I use the matte side as a concealer (yes, I am that pale), and the shimmery side instead of eye liner/shadow.
If I think I need it, I'll even use the shimmer as a bit of highlighter on my cheeks.
Boom Boom, genius behind Push Up and owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar, shares some of her tips:
“I have a little secret, I line the inside of my eyes with the matte side of my Push Up brow highlighting pencil and it makes my eyes pop!” says Boom Boom. “It’s a little tid bit I share with clients and they LOVE it! It’s great for making you feel like you’re 20 again, especially on those days when you need a little extra something something to get you out the door with a smile.”
The trend started on the spring/summer runways, bleached brows and beige lined eyes for extra pop. Boom Boom says no way to bleaching brows, the bolder the better, but lining eyes with Push Up is a little secret every girl should know. “Simply line the inside rims of both lids, and if you’re really feeling it, dab a bit on the inside of the corners of your eyes by the nose. It will make your eyes look big and beautiful!” adds Boom Boom.
Other Push Up Tricks
· Use the matte concealer side on the brow bone to create the illusion of lift and to camouflage stragglers that are growing in while waiting for a brow wax.
· Dab the sparkle side on the inside corner of the eye for a dash of pop, so you look bright eyed and bushy tailed. See you later dark circles!
Bonus: Boom Boom never tests on animals!

BOOMing Brows: Spring/Summer 2011 Brows are Big and Bold
January, 2011 (New York, NY) – Spring/Summer 2011 brows are big and bold – those who couldn’t pull it off last season, now have a chance! Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar, offers tips for BOOMing, bold brows. YES, YES, YES!
“Big bold brows are always my fav – loved that Vera Wang used them in her spring show and I love seeing the smart cookies like Katy Perry, Natalie Portman and Lea Michele going bold,” explains Boom Boom who hinges the fate of big bold brows on four factors: color, length, width and arch.
Color: Go a little bolder (but not too dark, cookie) – tinting is a great option (match color to skin and hair undertones) and using a brow powder on a daily basis is great for adding definition and boldness. Try Boom Boom Brow Boostiers brow powders ($18.00 per jar: each comes with a brush. Colors: Aretha, Tina, Bette and Dolly).
Length: The space between brows should be equal to or a little wider than eyes. Take a long eye shadow brush or pencil and hold it parallel to the side of the nose. Where the brush meets the brow is where brows should begin. Extend the brush diagonally from nostril, following the outside edge of the eye toward the brow, where the inside edge of the brush hits is where brow should end.
Width: Work with natural width, just clean up strays along the top and bottom. If the damage has already been done and brows are too thin, apply castor oil to brows every night to help speed up the growth process - it’s one of the active ingredients in most brow and lash products. A brow gel can also help set and hold brows to make them look fuller. Try Boom Boom Brow-ssiere brow gel ($14.00).
Arch: Hold a brush parallel to the outside edge of the colored part of the eye (the iris). Where the brush meets the brow is where the highest part of the brow should be. To define the arch, use Boom Boom Push-Up brow highlighting pencil’s ($16.00) matte concealer side on the brow bone to create the illusion of lift.
Go bold with Boom Boom, you only live once! Boom Boom Brow Bar: 35 7th Avenue, The Big Apple: 212-229-2666. www.boomboombrowbar.com Boom Boom would never test on animals!

Boom Boom Push-Up Brow Highlighting Pencil

Another great product from the genius minds at Boom Boom Brow bar.
This soft, beige-y pencil rocks!
It's got two sides, Sparkles and Sparkle-free.
A little of the Sparkle under the brows works to make me look awake-- no small task!
Added bonus: I use the Sparkle-free side as concealer. It blends well and lasts.
Some Push-Up, some lipstick, maybe some mascara, and I'm good to go!
Love it!
And just for you, some Arch-advice from Boom Boom:
December, 2010 (New York City) – Between over-plucking and Botox, the arch is disappearing, and Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar (NYC), just won’t have it.
“Unfortunately for some, the last time they spotted their arch was in the 8th grade. That’s when an assessment is needed. Brow should be brushed upward and out to see exactly where the hair is missing, and then it needs to be filled in with Boom Boom Boostier brow powder while the hair grows back. The important thing is to fill in the necessary spots, but not to create a new line, that's when the brow starts to look like a rainbow,” explains Boom Boom.
Boom Boom advises to ask the following questions in an assessment:
1) Do brows start too far out?
2) Have they been tweezed into rainbows?
3) Are they too short?
“Any one of these scenarios will lose an arch, and my job is to get it back through a consult and rehab. Most brows can make it back, it just takes guidance and time,” states Boom Boom who also says the best brows have a slight arch. To find, hold a brush parallel to the outside edge of the colored part of the eye (the iris). Where the brush meets the brow is where the highest part of the brow should be. “The problem is, many people get carried away and loose their arch and don’t have the patience to get it back. All those poor souls walking around archless, just need a little TLC.”
“Another offender of the arch is Botox, more times than not, it lifts brows (hence the permanently surprised expression). In this instance, the trick is to soften the arch from the top. You have to be very careful when doing this because you do not want to remove the arch entirely. Hold a pencil/brush directly over the arch on top and assess what needs to be removed. We cater to a lot of women who have started doing Botox and now have no clue what to do with their brows…it’s a new variable that needs to be tended to,” explains Boom Boom.

I have very fair eyebrows and this luscious little creamy brow tint does a wonderful job at highlighting my brows.
