Lipstick in a Different Wei

When I popped open Wei East’s Lip Sensation my initial thought was, “What the?!” and then, ‘Where am I supposed to wear this insanity? A rave?”

But then I remembered this seemingly intimidating gold “reacts with your personal skin chemistry to transform and create a custom lip color.” Whew!

Once applied it did indeed morph into a pretty peony pink that lasted throughout the afternoon, even with subsequent drinking, snacking, and Aquafor applications. In regards to the latter, Lip Sensation is decently hydrating on its own, with a non-drying formula that includes soothing Aloe, but as I’ve mentioned before, I have a problem!

I really loved the polished pop of color it gave… just a subtle kick of my natural lip hue that is perfect for every day. I’m definitely stoked to add it to my spring make-up arsenal. You can snag your own for $12 online at www.weieast.com, or at www.hsn.com

Seeing Red... And Liking It!

A few personal facts:
1) My lips are always dry and therefore I am addicted to chapstick (a college stint on Accutane= blemish free skin, but also an ongoing Aquafor dependence).
2) As a direct result of #1, I loathe lipstick (never hydrating enough).
3) I want to be Kate Moss (but really who doesn't?!).

So it was a true beauty experiment when I plucked down $4.99 at Target recently for a fire engine red tube of Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick, Color 01.
Lo and behold, this nude mouth die hard was wonderfully surprised- the super flattering reddish-blue hue went on smooth, stayed vibrant throughout the night and most importantly, didn't make my lips feel like the Sahara.
The bright shade might not be an everyday go-to (old Aquafor habits die hard!), but I am quite excited about rocking it on future nights out.

A tip of the tube to you, Ms. Moss!

Rimmel London: Lasting Finish Lipstick

Shade (2962) 12

Yes, this is a lasting finish by Kate Moss color.
While I am not fond of Kate Moss (I just don't get the appeal, never have), the lipstick is awesome, and I do love having my name on the tube...

The 12 is a perfect nude, or, in my case, the perfect color I wish my lips were naturally.

Lasts without drying or feeling like I'm wearing wax lips.

Lipstick Love Part II: Urban Decay

In this post, I talked about how I had ordered a lipstick from Urban Decay.
I now have had my UD Apocalypse lipstick for about a month and a half.

It's pretty awesome. I call it the "Killer Popsicle." This refers to the case, not the shade.
The shade is a deep blackberry stain that can be put on as lightly or heavily as desired. It's has good, creamy consistency, above average staying power, and a nice anisette-type smell.

I'm thinking that Urban Decay is more about high-quality than its edgy reputation implies. A good, solid brand.

Bobbi Brown~Coral Reef

Spring is just around the corner-celebrate the season's arrival by ditching your firetruck red lipstick and trying on Bobbi Brown's 2010 Spring collection!! Bobbi Brown cosmetics never ceases to impress and this family of cool corals is no exception. I claim this lip color the must-have for the Spring season (especially in "Coral Reef")!!

Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color

Rose Brown (28)
Good consistency, almost no scent (tres neutral), square tube that won't roll up on its own in your purse/pocket, nice size--streamlined.
Excellent every-day color, lasts, feels nice on--not goopy, but balm-y.
I'm loving the slighty brown-ish rose!
This is from the brights collection, but is the least scary color you can imagine.
I don't know if it's just me, but Bobbi Brown products seem ideal!

Lipstick: Besame Cosmetics

Besame Cosmetics
Enchanting Lipstick Sets
Red Collection
First, how freaking cute are these?!?
Each lipstick is about the size of an applicator-less o.b. tampon.
The little box & all the cases are lovely. Very glam.
There are 5 little lipsticks included in the set, all are creamy, have a definite lipstick smell, but not in a bad way:
  • Besame Red--Red. Post WWII France.
  • Red Hot Red--BRIGHT red, almost coral-esque. Said to be Marylin's favorite.
  • Red Velvet--Red, but not stopping traffic.
  • Cherry Red--Lovely deep red.
  • Noir Red--very dark & goth full strength, great if that's what you're going for; for me, I just blotted, used as stain. Very nice.

Urban Apothecary

Urban Apothecary Kiss & Tell Lipstick

Royal
I love it!!!
Nice red, DEEP & dark (not color on this page).
Goes on smoothly, moisturizing, semi-matte finish.
The color LASTS. I put it on about 7 am, it is 11 am & I am still colorful--2 drinks & breakfast later!
Smells like lipstick, but I can live with that.

Mary Kay - Creme Lipstick

Mary Kay
Creme Lipstick
Red/Rouge

I have to admit, I use a bunch of Mary Kay products but have never tried their lipstick line. This little, sleek black tube of lipstick goes on smooth and soft. It has a TON of color. Very creamy, very red and very noticeable. It does leave behind lip marks on your coffee mug, but remains a rich red color throughout the day. The other bonus is that is definitely does not bleed when applied. My suggestion would be to use a sheer lip gloss over it to give it some shine.

Shiseido Shimmering Lipstick

Shiseido
Shimmering Lipstick
SL12

Kate was kind enough to let me help her test. My first test was the Shimmering Lipstick by Shiseido. The color is called SL12. It is a soft pink color. The tube of lipstick itself is very chic, as all Shiseido products are. The color glides on as smooth as lip gloss. It applies almost as if it were liquid. None of that normal dry cracked feeling. The color is not overwhelmingly pink, almost a nude pink, but with a little sparkle. The other great thing is that there isn't that awful lipstick taste floating around. The only downer is that it isn't long-lasting and it will get left behind on your coffee mug. I think I would try a darker color on myself next time, but the soft pink is a great summer look.

Lancome-- Color Design Lipstick

Lancome
Color Design Lipstick
Fashion Icon
I like color on my lips. I'm not much for nude lipstick, except during the summer (about 2 months in Michigan)-- I need the color to keep from looking like vanilla pudding. This is deeply saturated COLOR, with sparkle. Not for the faint-of-heart! I love it. I have gotten several compliments. Sometimes I wish that it was a little less glittery, or that the glitter flecks were a bit more towards microscopic. But it feels nice on, and it looks good:)

MAC my lips

MAC lip color gives the best colors! They have a brilliant recycling program. And there's the whole Viva Glam line that funds AIDS research... Hard to navigate through the formulas sometimes, though...

Tinted Lipglass-- I had in Viva Glam VI. Excellent color, super shiny, but it is basically glue. E.g., If you need to wipe your nose, you should also wipe-off & reapply, cause you will have collected lint and dust like no one's business.

Lip Gelee-- When the super-friendly MAC artiste handed me a tube of Slicked Pink Lip Gelee & told me I needed it, I was very dubious. It's a coral-peachy thing in a tube. I was not impressed. Then I tried it. Holy moley! Shine, just enough color, not at all sticky! I wear it over nude-ish lipsticks, by itself in the summer... Sidenote: The MAC store on Queen Street in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) is incredible. It's like a party!

Lipstick-- VIVA GLAM lipsticks rock!!! The colors are excellent, not super-long-wearing, but smooth & creamy. My senior year of high school (1994), I was all about a shade that was not unlike Deep Love. It was a deep red, Matte, blue based. I think it also started with a "D." It was brilliant. Dubosh? So worth the hours of baby-sitting it took to get the $!

I have bought the Viva Glam palette for the last 2 years. This year, I also bought for my mom & sister. LOVE the beautiful case, the little brush, the great shades!

Vincent Longo LipStain Lipstick

Vincent Longo LipStain Lipstick
Cherry
How do I love this? Let me count the ways:
1. SPF 15
2. Brilliant red color. Not over-the-top, but like I just had strawberries.
3. Glossy, but not so much that I could be seen from space.
4. Makes my lips feel smooth.
5. Not greasy, cakey, or waxy feeling.
6. I can put it on without looking. Okay, I do this with most things, but this doesn't get all sloppy.
7. Smells like vanilla & cinnamon.
8. Doesn't taste like dish soap. Doesn't really taste like anything.

I am all about it. My only druthers is that they no longer make the shade Americana, which was (oddly enough) more of a cherry-red. That was quite a color.
