Sula Paint and Peel Nail Color

THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2011

The Dove color is fabulous and very of the moment. I was geeked to open it and find out it didn't smell horrible either. I did 3 coats and then the top coat. I waited for about 7 minutes to do much of anything with my hands. Alas I reached for something and a few of my nails smudged and peeled instantly. The packaging said the color should last about 2 days. I'm disappointed but will admit that peeling the polish off was sort of wonderful.

Napoleon, Perdis~Chandelier Shine, Nail Polish & Lipgloss set

What a great gift idea!!
If you had asked me yesterday what three items I would take to a deserted island I would have said:
1. My hot husband
2. My yoga mat
3. Nail Polish

But today, now that I know that this Nail Polish & Lip Gloss set exists, I would like to change #3 to the Napoleon Perdis Chandelier set in Cupi Doll! This shade is a cute, soft, bubblegum pink color in both products. The nail polish sets beautifully in two easy coats and the lip gloss paints on easy and slick.

It is such a relief to know that if I'm ever deserted on an island with my hubby
that my nails AND lips will be lookin' fine!!

BOOMing Brows: Spring/Summer 2011 Brows are Big and Bold

January, 2011 (New York, NY) – Spring/Summer 2011 brows are big and bold – those who couldn’t pull it off last season, now have a chance! Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar, offers tips for BOOMing, bold brows. YES, YES, YES!

“Big bold brows are always my fav – loved that Vera Wang used them in her spring show and I love seeing the smart cookies like Katy Perry, Natalie Portman and Lea Michele going bold,” explains Boom Boom who hinges the fate of big bold brows on four factors: color, length, width and arch.

Color: Go a little bolder (but not too dark, cookie) – tinting is a great option (match color to skin and hair undertones) and using a brow powder on a daily basis is great for adding definition and boldness. Try Boom Boom Brow Boostiers brow powders ($18.00 per jar: each comes with a brush. Colors: Aretha, Tina, Bette and Dolly).

Length: The space between brows should be equal to or a little wider than eyes. Take a long eye shadow brush or pencil and hold it parallel to the side of the nose. Where the brush meets the brow is where brows should begin. Extend the brush diagonally from nostril, following the outside edge of the eye toward the brow, where the inside edge of the brush hits is where brow should end.

Width: Work with natural width, just clean up strays along the top and bottom. If the damage has already been done and brows are too thin, apply castor oil to brows every night to help speed up the growth process - it’s one of the active ingredients in most brow and lash products. A brow gel can also help set and hold brows to make them look fuller. Try Boom Boom Brow-ssiere brow gel ($14.00).

Arch: Hold a brush parallel to the outside edge of the colored part of the eye (the iris). Where the brush meets the brow is where the highest part of the brow should be. To define the arch, use Boom Boom Push-Up brow highlighting pencil’s ($16.00) matte concealer side on the brow bone to create the illusion of lift.

Sam Villa's Tricks of the Trade for Finishing

Sam Villa, founding partner of the Sam Villa® brand and Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue, travels the world teaching other stylists how to finish hair to perfection. He’s now sharing his tricks of the trade, so a pro blow can be done at home.

“When people tell me they can’t get their hair to look like it does when their stylists finish it, I tell them that it’s easier for the stylist because they’re behind in a natural position, facing the head. Most people blowdry their hair in front of a mirror, which makes everything opposite. I suggest getting hair on the brush and then turning away from the mirror to do the blowdry,” explains Villa.

Tricks of the Trade
· To prevent frizz, reach for an old tee shirt instead of a fluffy towel to thoroughly squeeze out the excess moisture without roughing up the cuticle.
· Detangle hair by working from the bottom up.
· Product is a necessity. Use mousse for volume, lotion for hair that’s smooth and touchable or gel for lift and definition.
· A boar-bristle brush will distribute the natural oils throughout the hair and give a smooth finish.
· Stand up, because your body will have more flexibility than when you’re sitting down.
· If you work with a round brush, section off the hair and start at the bottom. Between sections, put down the blowdryer so you have both hands to get the hair on the brush.
· If your hair is color-treated, set your thermal tools on medium to keep the cuticle closed and maintain the color longer.
Naturally curly hair has special requirements:
· Comb out hair with a large-tooth comb.
· Before using a mousse or gel, apply a leave-in conditioner.
· To maintain the curl, clamp hair with clips at the base to provide lift; then let hair dry naturally or use a diffuser to dry it.
“The last thing I recommend to clients is that if they’re having a “bad hair day,” just start over! Spritz the hair with a water bottle and adjust the top surface. Investing just a few minutes will turn things around to have a great hair day,” states Villa.

Orlane, Paris~ Un journal de 14 jours

I will be keeping a 14 day diary of my experience with 3 time fighting
products by Orlane, Paris.
Ooh la la!
Day 1: I used Orlane's First Time-Fighting Care after my before-bed face cleansing. I wasn't expecting any miracles of course, but my husband did comment "Honey, your face looks really shiny..like, good shiny!" Hey, I'll take it!!

Day 2: This morning I again used the First Time-Fighting Care cream and also took a try at the Morning Recovery Concentrate and Eye Contour serums. Neither products felt heavy nor had a bold scent.

Day 3: Today I started to see a little breakout, so I called my dermo. She recommended using the First Time-Fighting Care  cream at night only, not during the day, under make-up. A word to the wise with sensitive skin like myself!

Day 4:  I fell in love today. Orlane's Morning Recovery Concentrate is no joke!! It really gives my skin an instant, brightening, boost!

Day 5: Breakout butt has been kicked. Crisis averted.

Day 6: Call me a placebo princess, but I definitely started seeing a difference in my under-eye discoloration today! Welcome to my heart Eye Contour Serum!!

Days 7,8,9: I truly am seeing a difference in my wake-up-face, since lathering up with  the First Time-Fighting Care cream each night! I'm hooked!

Days 10-12: I stayed the weekend away and neglected to pack my Orlane products!! My skin is definitely feeling and looking a bit malnourished from only 3 days away!

Day 13: Ahhh...back to the routine. What a difference a day makes! My face feels replenished and instantly brightened.

Day 14: I must say, Merci beaucoup, Orlane, Paris!!

Cures by Avance Cérum Vitamin C Therapy

I'm not going to lie to you: This serum is an odd reddish liquid, and smells like ferment and Teryaki sauce.

It does, however, make for AMAZING skin! Trust Avance!
My skin was bright, even, happy and clear.

I do recommend putting it on at least 20 minutes before going to bed, just so your pillows don't pick up the scent. But it is worth it! Very worth it.

Boom Boom Push-Up Brow Highlighting Pencil

Another great product from the genius minds at Boom Boom Brow bar.

This soft, beige-y pencil rocks!
It's got two sides, Sparkles and Sparkle-free.

A little of the Sparkle under the brows works to make me look awake-- no small task!

Added bonus: I use the Sparkle-free side as concealer. It blends well and lasts.
Some Push-Up, some lipstick, maybe some mascara, and I'm good to go!
Love it!

And just for you, some Arch-advice from Boom Boom:
December, 2010 (New York City) – Between over-plucking and Botox, the arch is disappearing, and Boom Boom, owner of Boom Boom Brow Bar (NYC), just won’t have it.

“Unfortunately for some, the last time they spotted their arch was in the 8th grade. That’s when an assessment is needed. Brow should be brushed upward and out to see exactly where the hair is missing, and then it needs to be filled in with Boom Boom Boostier brow powder while the hair grows back. The important thing is to fill in the necessary spots, but not to create a new line, that's when the brow starts to look like a rainbow,” explains Boom Boom.

Boom Boom advises to ask the following questions in an assessment:
1) Do brows start too far out?
2) Have they been tweezed into rainbows?
3) Are they too short?

“Any one of these scenarios will lose an arch, and my job is to get it back through a consult and rehab. Most brows can make it back, it just takes guidance and time,” states Boom Boom who also says the best brows have a slight arch. To find, hold a brush parallel to the outside edge of the colored part of the eye (the iris). Where the brush meets the brow is where the highest part of the brow should be. “The problem is, many people get carried away and loose their arch and don’t have the patience to get it back. All those poor souls walking around archless, just need a little TLC.”

“Another offender of the arch is Botox, more times than not, it lifts brows (hence the permanently surprised expression). In this instance, the trick is to soften the arch from the top. You have to be very careful when doing this because you do not want to remove the arch entirely. Hold a pencil/brush directly over the arch on top and assess what needs to be removed. We cater to a lot of women who have started doing Botox and now have no clue what to do with their brows…it’s a new variable that needs to be tended to,” explains Boom Boom.

TouchBack Brow Marker

by Colormark

I used the Dark Brown to fill in the sparse spots in my eyebrows.
It went on cleanly, looked even, and stayed in place!

Takes all of 30 seconds, and makes your brows look well-groomed.
It also covers grays-- not that there's an issue there ;)
